February 18, 2017, Labrador City, NL – It was a beautiful Labrador night as approximately 30 people came out to take part in The Great Canadian Life Project snowshoe trek led by local guide Stephanie Rideout.

The weather cooperated and the temperatures were ideal.  Folks departed the Menihek Nordic Ski Chalet and travelled along Vello’s Trail for 6km of pure Canadian winter bliss.  The group was comprised of winter enthusiasts of all ages and included all skill levels.  Keeping within the themes of Canada 150 and the vision of The Great Canadian Life Project, this event brought people together to experience and celebrate the best of Labrador in a way that is fun, healthy and community oriented.

Families returned to the Menihek Nordic Ski Chalet immediately after the hike for a campfire and marshmallow roast.

Sunday, February 19th, Gateway Labrador in partnership with Labrador West and Menihek Nordic Ski Club hosted a community BBQ at the cross-country ski chalet.  Folks grilled their meat of choice and enjoyed their meal with salad, potato, mushrooms and onions and of course with a Canada 150 anniversary cake.  Join us for our next event with Menihek Nordic Ski Club as The Great Canadian Life Project proudly presents KidsFest on February 25th and 26th.  Kidsfest will be a weekend of fun, games and cross country ski races.
